2017 Volunteer Appreciation Dinner
Marika and her father, Scott, are two of our volunteers who volunteer faithfully every week in our Distribution Center – with a smile! Last night we honored over 200 volunteers like them who help to fulfill the mission of Hands of Hope NW. Our speaker was Dr. Rosie Kerr, who served on staff at Kudjip Nazarene Hospital, Papua New Guinea. Dr. Rosie shared how the simple act of packing medical supplies every week can not only bring hope, healing, and mobility, but can transform whole communities through our field partners who serve overseas and bring the holistic Gospel to people in hospitals and homes, along with wheelchairs and crutches.
Pastor Ryan Gage, College Church Music Minister, played his special music and invited us to sing carols. Debbie Wheeler, Executive Director, honored each team of volunteers, and gave out door prizes. She also honored Terrance (Terry) Smith for his 25 years of service to the ministry, including two separate terms as Board President.
A big thank you to Gayellen Smith and Dr. Patricia (Pat) Kissell for working all day to provide a delicious meal for over 120 guests, and their kitchen helpers, the Young Adults from College Church.
Thanks to Lesa Barker who created festive centerpieces for 17 tables that matched the Christmas tree decorations. Thanks to the sound man who mic’d our speakers, and custodian, Kelvin Boyd, who helped set up and tear down. College Church of the Nazarene hosted us in their beautiful atrium again, so we thank them too. Debbie noted that without the service of our volunteers, we would have to double our budget! Thanks to all, visible and behind the scenes, who make this ministry successful in transforming lives!
