Missionary Continues His Ministry
John Fillmore was a missionary in Mozambique, Africa, for ten years. Now that he is back in the States, he has continued his missionary work by collecting medical equipment and supplies from northern Idaho and eastern Washington. About four times a year, John drives south to Nampa with his truck and trailer crammed with equipment, such as baby warmers, exam lights, doctor scales, plus many boxes of supplies. He collects from Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur D’Alene, Norco in Spokane, and from private donors.
John first heard about this ministry while he was still in Africa. Founding Director, Liz Murtland, and her husband, Rich, went to Mozambique on a Work and Witness trip in 2000. They had already arranged for a container of medical supplies and clothing to be sent there because of a huge flood that had caused massive damage in rural areas.
John still goes back to Mozambique every other year and works with a group called Roofs for Africa. So far, the organization has built roofs on 417 churches and two schools. Nine new churches have also been started there.
