Idaho Statesman Guest Opinion by Debbie Wheeler

Debbie Wheeler, Executive Director of Hands of Hope Northwest, wrote a guest opinion for the Idaho Statesman to raise awareness that non-governmental healthcare alternatives exist in our community. She highlighted the work of HoHNW and health care clinics that offer services to low-income individuals and families, and appealed to the legislature to do take action. You can read the full…

Local Clinics Helped

Valley Family Health Care has six nonprofit medical and three dental clinics in southwestern Idaho and eastern Oregon that serve very rural areas. Services are offered on a sliding scale basis and are very helpful for those who can’t drive long distances to the bigger towns. We were so happy to be able to help them with some equipment for…

October Director’s Note

My pastor has been preaching from the book of James lately, a book that has much to say about how we show our love for each other. “Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his…

7th Ukraine Shipment of 2016

For the seventh time this year, our loading crew moved, packed, and squeezed 17,000 pounds of equipment and supplies into a 40’ container. There were 220 boxes of diapers on this shipment, thanks to the help of many of you who donated them. It was quite a valuable shipment too, worth $261,272. Volunteer, Jim Marion, took a well-earned break in…

Seven Physician Assistant students from Boise volunteered to come on Tuesday evening and sort medical supplies. Thanks for coming! We appreciate your help! Two Girl Scouts, along with their mothers, packed 67 boxes of  linens! Thanks, Daphne and Allie, for your hard work and caring for others! If you or your group would like to serve with HoHNW, download an application…

Nursing Students Benefit

Nursing students attending the College of Western Idaho are benefiting from this ministry. When supplies arrive with a close expiration date, we can’t send them overseas as they would expire before they arrive. Now we are donating these supplies to colleges for the students to practice with. High school Certified Nursing Assistant Programs are also being helped with equipment and…

Board Retreat—Learning and Growing Together

On August 19 and 20, 2016, we held a Board Retreat in New Meadows, Idaho. It was a wonderful time for board members to learn, interact, and grow. Our coach was John Pearson, a nationally known coach and the head of John Pearson Associates. His costs were picked up by the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust as part of their Board…

Volunteer Spotlight in Memory of Robbie Durbin

This month we are remembering one of our volunteers who graduated to heaven on August 27. Robbie Durbin was an elementary school teacher and a lay minister at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene, where she led the Singles Ministry for 25 years. Always one who liked to stay busy and help others, Robbie began volunteering with us after her…

September 2016 Director’s Note

I am so thankful that the Lord’s Hand is on this ministry. We see His direction and connections happening all the time. Often we tell people that we don’t have the thing they need, only to have someone bring in the very item a few days later. Another local charity, Love INC of Treasure Valley, brought in two pallets of…

Diaper Roundup Update

The diapers have been pouring in since we announced last month that we needed them for a shipment to Ukraine. Even though we are sending one shipment on Tuesday, September 20, we still need more diapers, as we continue to work with several Christian organizations in that country. The special needs are great there, particularly with orphanages and homes for…
